Four weeks. One epic adventure. And the author in the room.

A month-long book club for young readers, built around The Odyssey: A Modern Retelling by Liv Albert. Over four cosy Thursday afternoons we'll read Homer's epic out loud together — monsters, gods, shipwrecks and all — and puzzle through it as a group. It's part story time, part book club, part myth-nerd hangout, and it's kept deliberately small so everyone gets a turn to talk.

The best part: author Liv Albert is joining us in person. She kicks off week one teaching everyone how to actually say those tricky Greek names, answers the kids' questions throughout the month, and comes back for a live Q&A at the finale.

Who it's for

Kids ages 9–12 who love a good adventure — whether they're already myth-obsessed or brand new to the Odyssey. No prep or prior reading required; a copy of the book is included and it's theirs to keep. Come in person at the shop, or join each session live on Zoom.

What to expect

  • Week 1 · Sept 24 — Kick-off with Liv. Liv joins us in person to launch the club and teach the group how to say the Greek names, plus answer those first big myth questions.
  • Weeks 2 & 3 · Oct 1 & Oct 8. We read aloud together (kids encouraged, never pressured, to take a turn), talk it through, and jot down questions — a few go straight to Liv, and we read her answers aloud the next week.
  • Finale · Oct 15 — Liv in person. A proper send-off with a live talk and Q&A. Bring your biggest, weirdest, best questions.
  • Every week: light snacks and a cosy corner of the shop that's all ours.
