Call for Submissions: Who's Afraid? Zine

Free to submit · All ages (0–100+) · Deadline: Friday, October 23

Who's Afraid? is a literary reading series curated and hosted by Furqan Mohamed, dedicated to the many shapes of fear: terror, haunting, and feeling like an outsider. Who gets to be afraid? Do you listen to the goosebumps and the hairs standing up on the back of your neck, or are you the thing that goes bump in the night?

Through poetry, stories, flash fiction and other creative forms, Who's Afraid? welcomes writers and artists who explore fear as a feeling, a memory passed down, and a force in our communities.

Currently in residence at the Tranzac, we're excited to announce this special edition of the series in collaboration with Nuts & Shells for a special Halloween Who's Afraid? Zine. We want your work in it— kids, to the front!

What we're looking for

Anything about fear. What scares you? What goes bump in the night? Have you ever felt like the monster, or like the outsider? Kids and grown-ups are both welcome to submit, and so are families working together.

Any format is welcome:

  • Poems
  • Short stories
  • Drawings or illustrations
  • Collages
  • Comics
  • Anything else you can put on paper
